DashM8 vs TeslaFi

TeslaFi is the long-running data logger of the category, and its firmware tracker is a genuine public service. It is also web-only and polls the car.

What TeslaFi does well

Years of history, a devoted user base, and the firmware-rollout tracker that half the community checks when an update appears. Its data export and its depth of per-drive detail are real, and its sleep-mode settings are configurable in ways that reflect a long argument with the problem.

It also predates the Fleet API era, which means it has been through more Tesla platform changes than most of the category and has kept working through them. That is worth something, and it is not the kind of thing a newer product can claim.

Where DashM8 differs

TeslaFi polls, so its sample interval is a setting rather than a second, and polling is why its sleep settings need to exist at all: the read itself can keep a car awake. DashM8 subscribes to Tesla's stream and initiates nothing, so there is no polling interval to tune and no trade-off between resolution and letting the car sleep.

TeslaFi is a web application with no native iOS app, priced at $7.99 a month after a fourteen-day trial, with no free tier. DashM8 has a native iPhone app, a free plan for one car, and measured charging losses.

Bringing your history

Leaving a logger you have used for years means leaving the history behind, which is a real cost and we will not pretend otherwise. Import from TeslaFi is on our list and is not shipped yet; until it is, the honest answer is that you would start a new history with us and keep the old one where it is.
