Stats is a well-liked native iOS app with a watch face and a long history on the App Store. It reads the car by polling.

What Stats does well

It is a proper iOS citizen: widgets, a watch complication, a design people like, and years of App Store feedback behind it. For an owner who mainly wants the car on their wrist and their home screen, that is a strong offer and DashM8's watch story is not yet as good.

It is also a one-purchase-and-done option in a category that has largely moved to subscriptions, and its lifetime licence has been available for far longer than ours, which is a fair thing for a buyer to weigh.

Where DashM8 differs

Because Stats polls, it sees the car at whatever interval it asks, and asking is what can keep a car awake. DashM8 subscribes to Tesla's stream: one second between samples while the car is awake, silence when it sleeps, and no request from us either way.

That mechanism is what makes the rest possible — charging loss in kilowatt-hours, drain measured only on genuinely parked windows, pack-level telemetry. Stats is priced at $9.99 a month, $100 a year or $249.99 for a lifetime licence; DashM8 is free for one car, $13.99 a week or $124.99 a year for Pro, and $199.99 for a founding lifetime licence.
